Carnarvon, here we come!

Early tomorrow morning we head off to Carnarvon in the Northern Cape, the small town closest to the site of the soon-to-be-built MeerKAT radio telescope.

‘We’ means a group from the KAT office, together with spouses. The idea is to see the site – for some of us for the first time – where our partners may be spending protracted days and weeks (though, please God, not months) in the year(s) to come, setting up the dishes and integrating all the bits and bobs, so that the scientists can learn all about the beginnings of the universe.

It’s all most exciting.

P.S. The containers I blogged about a while back are still at the SAAO in Observatory, but soon two of them will be shipped out to the site.
