Ten days ago, in our local community newspaper, the Tatler, I spotted a little notice:
“Farm Film Productions has been contracted to shoot a television commercial for Snickers. A Public Open Space in Pinelands, corner of Broad and Mountain View roads has been chosen as the location. Part of the brief involves building a set around which the story will be filmed. To this end we are constructing a temporary two sided facade that appears to be a house. A swimming pool will be built in front of this facade. Construction begins on the 6th of January. Actual filming takes place over two days, the 22nd and 23rd of January 2009 during sunlight hours. During this period we will fly a helicopter around the set as part of the story and may require some of the roads to be locked off intermittently or safety reasons. On completion of filming, the set will be removed and the area rehabilitated.”
Intrigued by this, I took the side roads home the very next day and had a good look at the site. Most of the wooden facade was already up, and there were workers clambering all over the site with shovels and piles of sand everywhere. A few days later, there was a low fence around the one side of the property, and what looked like a swimming pool in the front yard. It was extraordinary, how quickly all of this had appeared!
Last Friday afternoon, the 23rd of January, we could hear a helicopter flying low very nearby, so we set off down the road, camera in hand, towards Pinelands train station to have a closer look. We joined a throng of curious onlookers milling around all the side roads, many of them clearly commuters who’d either arrived by train or were about to get on the train home. The poor security guards with their yellow bibs had a tough time making sure that people stayed at a safe distance and well behind the red-and-white plastic tape cordoning off the area.
Here are some piccies:
I really wonder what the end product will look like. We don’t have a telly, so we’ll probably never know. But if you ever see a Snickers advert where a helicopter flies over a house from the back, and some people are splashing around in a pool, you’ll know where it was filmed. 🙂
And then please drop me a line!!!
