Seeing the earth from above

A friend of mine who works for the South African Weather Services* sent me this link to the World Sunlight Map

On it you can:

“Watch the sun rise and set all over the world on this real-time, computer-generated illustration of the earth’s patterns of sunlight and darkness. The clouds are updated every 3 hours with current weather satellite imagery.”

It’s really quite extraordinary to see our beautiful Planet Earth from above like that, with the sun inching slowly across it.

You can also play around with the various projections, i.e. Mollweide, Peters, Mercator and equirectangular. I like the Mollweide one most because it kind of looks like the planet, though rather squished. 🙂

We really are all inter-linked, aren’t we?
