Today is Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday, and the day has dawned bright and beautiful!
Birthday tributes to the greatest leader and statesman our country has ever been blessed with have been pouring in to radio stations across the country, and people are phoning in with their stories of meeting this amazing man.
What all the stories have in common is that they illustrate how much he has touched their hearts and minds – just being in his presence or shaking his hand has had a deeply transformative effect on so many people of all ages and race groups.
He is the one person I would have loved to meet, especially because I share his birthday (although I’m a few years younger 😉 ).
And I’m sure many of us wish that he would have been released from prison many years earlier, so that we could have had the benefit of his compassion and wisdom for much longer – I wonder how the fate of our country would have been different?
My greatest wish for South Africa today: If only we had another leader like Madiba waiting in the wings to take over the reigns of our beleaguered country at this challenging time. We so badly need someone with his insight, playful sense of humour and genuine warmth to lead us into the future.
Happy Birthday, Madiba!
May the Gods bless you with many, many more years
on our Earth,
and with a life of radiant health and joyful vitality,
because we really, really need you.
Please participate in today’s Leader’s Day initiative at 10h00 South African time: Think Positive thoughts of our community and political leaders!
