  1. The Christmas lights in the Southern Cape never get taken down. Each town usually has a “switching on the lights” (don’t know what this is called officially!) event in mid-December.

      Ohh! I was wondering about that. In Cape Town, I think they do take them down, and put them up again – in Adderley and Heerengracht Streets, which is our main thoroughfare. Then there is indeed a ceremonial event known as the Switching On of the Christmas Lights”, which is usually attended by thousands of people in the centre of town.
