Welcome to my World!
This blog grew out of a desire to share with others my enthusiasm for getting to know my neighbourhood and my city - and hopefully more parts of South Africa and beyond!
The Cape Peninsula is an extraordinarily beautiful place: we have an iconic world-famous mountain right in the heart of Cape Town, wonderful and easily accessible hiking trails all over the mountain, and a fascinating history, culture and society just waiting to be explored.
Hover your mouse over each of the menus (Exploring the Cape, Getaways, Hikes and Rambles, Travel, Home and Garden, Entertainment and Defence Reserves) to access archived posts in those categories.
Happy Browsing!

A cold, wet and windy hike near Jonkersdam
Saturday dawned bright and beautiful, with a clear blue sky arching above the Cape Flats. It was the perfect day for a hike. I quickly packed a picnic, water, sunscreen, hats, and a spare jacket into our rucksack, and we … Continue reading

How to bake a perfectly simple chocolate chunk loaf cake
This is a recipe for a really simple, straightforward, no-muss no-fuss, chocolate cake with some chunks of dark chocolate tossed into the mix. The amounts used aren’t prescriptive, as I used Granny’s old method of “Backen nach Schnauze”. This basically … Continue reading
