This morning, while cleaning the pool, we were devastated to find a dead baby bird trapped in the leaf catcher.
We are pretty sure it’s Flutter-Wings.
We buried him under a bush with yellow flowers, underneath the nest where he was born.
This is so upsetting…

Today, I joined Richard and a work colleague at our favourite farmstall, the Millstone Farmstall, Ouden Molen Eco-village in Pinelands, for lunch.

Flutter-Wings and his Daddy

When I got home this afternoon, I caught a glimpse of little Flutter-Wings sheltering among the clivia and ivy near the hibiscus. Clearly its wings weren’t strong enough to fly up into the nest above it.
The poor little creature was just a ball of fluff in the blustery South Easter wind:

Last night we rescued a little baby sparrow (or something) from – quite literally – the jaws of death… well, of Tuffy-cat. If you’re just a bit bigger than a very fluffy pingpong ball, that is a heart-stopping experience.

A tiny little baby bird is sleeping in our bathroom tonight.
