Welcome to my World!
This blog grew out of a desire to share with others my enthusiasm for getting to know my neighbourhood and my city - and hopefully more parts of South Africa and beyond!
The Cape Peninsula is an extraordinarily beautiful place: we have an iconic world-famous mountain right in the heart of Cape Town, wonderful and easily accessible hiking trails all over the mountain, and a fascinating history, culture and society just waiting to be explored.
Hover your mouse over each of the menus (Exploring the Cape, Getaways, Hikes and Rambles, Travel, Home and Garden, Entertainment and Defence Reserves) to access archived posts in those categories.
Happy Browsing!

Movie review: “Charlie Bartlett”
Not normally a fan of American high school movies because they are often filled with infantile slapstick humour (Americans seem to have a particular fondness for those idiotic food fights), I was pleasantly surprised by Charlie Bartlett. This 2007 comedy … Continue reading

De la Rey: Hoo-hah about an Afrikaans song
All the publicity surrounding Jacob Zuma’s trademark song, “Awuleth’ Umshini Wami” (Zulu for “Bring me my machine gun”) reminded me of the hoo-hah about an Afrikaans language song that hit the airwaves around October 2006. Titled “De la Rey” and performed by … Continue reading

Movie review: “Away from her”
The perfect movie if you and your beloved are both in a slightly gooshy-sentimental mood. To the accompaniment of rain pattering on the roof and streaming down the windows, light a fire or at least a couple of candles, make … Continue reading
