Welcome to my World!
This blog grew out of a desire to share with others my enthusiasm for getting to know my neighbourhood and my city - and hopefully more parts of South Africa and beyond!
The Cape Peninsula is an extraordinarily beautiful place: we have an iconic world-famous mountain right in the heart of Cape Town, wonderful and easily accessible hiking trails all over the mountain, and a fascinating history, culture and society just waiting to be explored.
Hover your mouse over each of the menus (Exploring the Cape, Getaways, Hikes and Rambles, Travel, Home and Garden, Entertainment and Defence Reserves) to access archived posts in those categories.
Happy Browsing!

Curry and chocochino among the chickens
Today was another unseasonably warm and glorious blue-sky day in Cape Town. Not a day for staying inside if one could help it. My sentiments were clearly shared by hundreds of other commuters who decided to leave work at lunchtime … Continue reading
Movie review: “Ratatouille”
We have just finished watching “Ratatouille”, a very funny and sweet animated movie by Pixar. It is about Rémy, a rat with a particularly sensitive nose, who dreams of becoming a chef. It is set in Paris, and revolves around the activities … Continue reading

Scones by the seaside
This morning, inspired by our spontaneous excursion yesterday and by another day of fabulous weather, we headed off to the South Peninsula. We stopped at the always hustling-and-bustling town of Fish Hoek with its loooong white beach. It took a … Continue reading

The lost art of letter writing
Nowadays, almost everyone communicates by instant messaging, whether it be email, SMS, MMS, e-chat, etc. They no longer write postcards or letters – and even faxes seem to be falling into disuse. I partly blame the South African Postal Services … Continue reading

Movie review: “Georgia Rule”
I was facing a lonely night without my hubby, made worse by 2-and-a-half hours of load-shedding from 20h00 to 22h30. Definitely a good reason to watch a DVD. And thank goodness for laptops with batteries. But it’s not easy … Continue reading
